Wiikey Fusion (aka Wiikey 3) Supports “D3-2″ Drive, WBFS, & Game Loading Via SD HC Memory Cards

The Wiikey Team have announce their latest modchip called the Wiikey Fusion, a revolutionary new modchip with SD card loading capabilities. Designed to work on the new D3-2 consoles! which are currently not modable with any other wii mod chip. Unlike the drivekey or the wasabi dx the new Wiikey Fusion Will run Games at 6x speed direct from your SD CARD.

The Wiikey Fusion, like all cable based modchips used a security flaw in the DVD Drive to get backups to run. The flaw was an audio debug line, that Nintendo left open. In the latest d3-2 drives that started appearing in Wiis in Europe and North America at the start of August 2009. If your DVD drive is a D3 version 2 it will not be able to play backups in disc format, but will be able to run ISOs from SD cards!

The Wiikey Fusion is a total DVD drive emulator. In fact, you can actually take your DVD drive out if you want, and just load games from the SD card?

Wiikey fusion represents a new approach to loading games: SD Card. Users will be able to dump an .iso image directly onto an SD card and then play their backup directly from it. Not only does this solution mean faster and more reliable loading, it also provides a simple solution for people to play backups on D3-2 drives without any kind of external hardware. Not having to to add a micro-controller to Wiikey Fusion (necessary for USB support) also means
that Wiikey Fusion will be a more economical solution.

Of course, Wiikey Fusion will support all of the other features of Wiikey and DriveKey, including playing DVD backups on DMS-D3 drives.

Wii Region Compatibility

The Wiikey Fusion will works on every nintendo wii region console (PAL, NTSC-u, NTSC-j and KOREAN). There is a little region selector a dipswitch on the top side of the modchip. Before the installation process it is just a case of setting the Dipswitch to match the region of your console and then install the wiikey fusion as per instructions, its exacally the same process as installing the wasabi dx or the drivekey.

Wii Game Compatibility

Like all modchips from the Wiikey team, the Wiikey fusion will work with every single games from your own region. There are no patches needed, no fixes to the ISO, the modchip can and will boot any game without errors. its just a case of pluging it in and then forget about it.

Cross region compatibility is a little bit different. The Wiikey Fusion will allow between 50~80% of games to work from other regions (backup or original). The percentage rate changes from one region to another, and it is the same as any other modchip from the wiikey team.

The Wiikey Fusion will also allow Gamecube backups, and Gamecube games from other regions to run without any problems.

SD Card Slot ISO Loading, how does it work?

To be sure the Wiikey Fusion is 100% solderless, it comes with a SD card slot that you can use (you can route it to be an external slot hanging out the back of your wii). If you have a soldering Iron handy you will need to solder just 2 wires from the Wiikey Fusion to the SD Card slot on the wii if you would like to use the Wii’s own Sd card slot.

As we mentioned, its option to solder the wires, if you want to have it 100% solderless, you can still enjoy all of the features.

Anything that works through DVD, will load through the SD card slot in ISO format, including gamecube ISOs!

Installation

installation is just like the Drivekey or the wasabi dx, its simply just a plug & play installation.

This modification device is designed primarily for the purpose of installation and development of alternative operating systems eg. Linux, to aid or assist in the repair or replacement of defective hardware, the use of and development of home brew open source software or the playing of import software titles, which are often available at a lower cost or months before your country’s release date . We do not support nor encourage, if possible, potential infringements of others intellectual property rights – please do not contact us with any question related to this use as we will not respond.

FAQ For Wiikey Fusion:

My games from other regions do not work, or have stopped working

Applies to: Wiikey 1, Wiikey 2, Wiikey Fusion

Check your system Menu version. Starting from System Menu 4.2 and onwards a new method of detecting region is used, which cannot be bypassed by Wiikey. The detection is done in such a way that it is no longer possible to achieve region override. This applies to both original discs and backups, regardless of media.

What is Error #002, and how can I fix it?

Applies to: Wiikey 1, Wiikey 2, Wiikey Fusion

Error 002 means the Wii system needs to be updated. Some games come bundled with an update for the Wii system. If the Wii needs updating, the update must be installed before the game can be started. However, if the Wii cannot see the update partition because the brickblocker feature is set to block all updates, or if a ’scrubbed’ game image where the update partition has been removed is used, the Wii will allow the game to start, resulting in Error 002.

One solution is to install the system update, provided that the game is of the same region as your Wii. Installing updates from other regions may brick uyour Wii, so make sure the game you are using to update is from the same region.

Note that installing updates can sometimes have undesirable results, such as the removal of region free capabilities with System Menu 4.2 or higher.

I have installed the NSMB update, but the game still doesnt start, or doesnt show up in browser?

Applies to: Wiikey 1, Wiikey 2

Even without the update a working copy of the game should show up in the browser and start up. Note that NSMB comes with 2 system updates on the disc.

Can I burn the update ISO to DVD and update from DVD?

Applies to: Wiikey Fusion

No. Currently WKF only supports updating from SD.

What is WBFS?

Applies to: Wiikey Fusion

WBFS, or Wii Backup File System, is a file system specifically designed for storing Wii backups. It allows the size of the games on the disk to be reduced by stripping out  redundant data. How well a game will compress varies from game to game.

Can I put Gamecube games on a WBFS formatted drive?

Applies to: Wiikey Fusion

Yes, however most WBFS applications will only allow Wii games to be written. A modified version of WBFS Manager, which allows Gamecube images to be used, is available for download on in the members area.

I have a Wiikey 1 or Wiikey 2 modchip installed on my drive. Do I have to remove it to use Wiikey Fusion?

Applies to: Wiikey 1, Wiikey 2, Wiikey Fusion

No. Wiikey and and 2 can be used in conjunction with chips attaching to drive cable.

I sometimes I have to power cycle the Wii for it to detect a disc/SD card. Is this normal?

Applies to: Wiikey Fusion

This issue sometimes occured with pre-1.2 firmwares. Please install the latest firmware update from the members area.

I have a “D3-2″ drive and I read that it wont load backup DVDs. Will this chip work with my drive?

Applies to: Wiikey 1, Wiikey 2

No. There is currently no way of making your drive read backups. The alternative is to get a chip such as Wiikey Fusion that allows games to be loaded from other media.

I have a “D3-2″ drive and I read that it wont load backup DVDs. Will this chip work with my drive?

Applies to: Wiikey Fusion

This chip will not allow you to load backup DVD media from your drive. However, you can still load games from SD card.

Japanese hardware Nov. 8-14: Wii sales more than triple, still bested by PSP

Media Create has released its sales chart for the week of November 8-14, and it finds Wii more than tripling in sales over last week with over 300 percent growth, thanks to the Japanese release of the Mario anniversary Wii and the Wiimote Plus on November 11.

While it sounds like good news for Nintendo, PSP still bested the console by 1,020 units. Considering the small gap between the two, it’s likely Wii will take the lead next week.

PS3 sales were down by 2,410 units this week, but still strong enough to maintain its third-place position for four or so weeks in a row. Xbox 360, interestingly enough, saw neither growth nor decline for the week as it sold the same amount both weeks.

Combined SKUs for DS hit the 34,457 mark, with DSi LL leading the group. Lifetime to date, the current DS line-up is at 15,923,471 in Japan.

Japanese hardware, January 4- November 14, 2010 (combined SKUs):

No Wii 2 until 45 million US sales

Bored of your Wii? Ready for Nintendo to reveal its next home console? Well, bad luck – the platform holder wants to sell another 15 million units in the US before it unleashes new hardware.

Gregarious Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku there were no plans to launch a ‘Wii 2′ next Christmas.

“As we sit here today we’re saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell,” he explained.

“After we’ve reached an installed base of 45 million here in the US, we can have a conversation about the next generation.”

Earlier this week Reggie revealed that Nintendo’s white wonderbox has moved around 30 million units in the Land of the Free so far, so we’re a way off yet.

Clearly, if you want a new console from Nintendo you’re going to have convince your American chums to open their wallets. Go on, off you go.

Kinect doubles UK Xbox sales

Sales of Xbox 360 in the UK doubled last week off the back of the launch of Kinect, Eurogamer has learnt.

The spike was confirmed this afternoon by sales monitor Chart-Track, a spokesperson stating that, while specific figures could not be revealed, it was “more than a fair reflection” to say the figure was double that of the previous week.

The boost is understood to have widened substantially the gap between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with Sony’s biggest hope for a pre-Christmas surge coming next week with the release of the long-delayed Gran Turismo 5.

A senior publishing source added: “360 doubled last week and it was already selling a lot. Wii and PS3 have been beaten by 360 consistently over the past few months.

“Wii is still outselling PS3 – the numbers are going the wrong way for Nintendo year-on-year but it’s certainly not a disaster.”

Kinect went on sale last week both separately and as part of official hardware bundles, the latter likely to be responsible for the jump in numbers.

Microsoft revealed yesterday that over one million units of Kinect has sold worldwide in the ten days following its 4th November US launch.

The US giant reckons it’s on track to sell five million units by Christmas.

Team Meat “can’t EVER do a PS3 version”

Super Meat Boy developer Team Meat wants to make one thing clear: there will never – not in a million years – be Super Meat Boy on PS3.

“Why wont this question die?” the carnivorous developer asked. “We have answered it publicly at least 15 times but it just never ends.”

“We can’t EVER do a PS3 version of Super Meat Boy because when we were going into negotiations with publishers, Sony was the only one that didn’t express much interest in the game. We assumed this meant they didn’t want the game, and [we] decided to sign with Nintendo and Microsoft.

“Our contracts excluded any release on PS3,” the post added. “We would have loved to do a PS3 version, but its not at all possible whatsoever now, so please stop asking about it.”

But a PC version of the super-hard, super-retro, super-fantastic timed platform game is very much part of the plan. “Our goal is to release the PC version on Steam by the last week of Nov,” Team Meat explained.

PC fans can look forward to exclusive unlockable secret characters in their version of the hit game. There will be six in total, including Captain Viridian from indie smash VVVVVV. A clue to those remaining reads: “One of them sticks, one of them dashes, one of them changes form and one of them isn’t organic.”

These characters aren’t going to make their way to the Xbox Live Arcade game – “No, never.”

The PC audience also gets a level editor. The planned release for this is “sometime in December”. “The initial release will be a bit rough,” warned Team Meat, “but as time passes we will take in your suggestions and fine-tune the editor and level portal into a super smooth piece of awesomeness that will keep the community going for years.”

It’ll also be “100 per cent free”.

Xbox Live Arcade fans can look forward to a beefy title update coming their way on – tentatively – 21st November.

Under the chapter heading “The Sewers of Dross”, 20 new levels stuffed. They range from medium difficulty to “soul crushing” and revolved around character Gish and his sticky abilities.

“This update will fix all known bugs, erase all 0.0 times from the leaderboards and come with a totally new music track by Danny called Dr. Fetus’s Castle,” the blog explained.

The Sewers of Dross will be one of three new chapters released on XBLA this year.

Super Meat Boy arrived in mid-October on Xbox Live Arcade. Like the fantastic Trials HD before it, the hook comes from completing levels as fast as you can.
